TIMBER PEST INSPECTIONS

Australia is home to over 300 different species of termites - some of which cause damage worth up to 200 million dollars a year.  Not only is this damage financially a problem but it can also cause a lot of stress and heartache for homeowners.  When buying a house, it is important that a timber pest inspection be carried out by licensed professionals to ensure that there are no negative surprises for the home buyer.  In fact, many sellers also seek timber pest inspections for the same reason. An Asset Pest Management Systems timber pest inspection includes:

• Instrument testing inside the building using “Termatrac”.  “Termatrac” is motion detector, using microwave technology as a radar function to identify termite activity.  This portable device also incorporates thermal and moisture sensors.

• And a comprehensive timber pest inspection report.

 

The inspection is a timber pest report - not just a termite inspection - for termites are not the only problem homeowners face.  Fungal decay to structural timbers, mould (which can have serious health implications) and borers are also covered in the report.

The Australian Standard recommends a timber pest inspection at least every 12 months.  The purpose of the inspection is not only to determine whether there is a timber pest problem, but also an opportunity to identify poor management practices that are conducive to timber pest attack.
